Over the past few weeks, we have done so much! For one thing, I was so happy that the final was changed from a terms test to an acting final. I acted a little in British Lit last year, so it was quite fun to act this year again and to watch the other groups interpret different scenes. I wonder if anyone chose to take the terms test and if so, how they thought it went.
We have also worked more on the multiple choice practice. I think that, albiet very slowly, I am improving! It was great to take the practice test myself and then listen to Ms. Holmes explain and analyze the poems afterwards. If only she was there to help us during the AP exam...
Last week, we watched a very modern version of Hamlet. That was quite an interesting movie. It was definitely the most different and absurb version that I had ever seen. I still don't know quite why the director would choose to have Ophelia die from a heroine overdose, but hey, I guess everyone has a different interpretion of this play!
This week, we have just started reading Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Although it is a bit confusing, this is by far my favorite play this year! It's refreshing to read some of the humor in it and nice to see Ms. Holmes laughing along with us. I can't wait to finish reading it!
The acting final was great! It gave me a whole lot of insight into Hamlet and was definitely much more fun than any written final could have been.
ReplyDeleteMultiple choice has been pretty hit-or-miss for me, even know. It's a good thing you're getting better at it, seeing as it's going to be a HUGE part of our AP examm.
I agree with you about the "modern" Hamlet being absurd. I felt like the other movies captured the play better than the "modern" one.
R&G is very funny!
I wish I could have a mini Ms. Holmes to take with me on the AP. It'd certainly make me feel much better.
ReplyDeleteAs crazy as the modern version of Hamlet was, I thought it had some interesting themes going, and I felt like I understood what the director was trying to do, with lighting and characterization and such. At least a little bit. Some stuff was just off the wall insane.
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern is definitely one of my favorites too! If this class has done anything, it's taught me to appreciate absurdism.
Julie, I completely agree with everything you have said! The final sure saved me from so much. With all of my other classes it was nice to not have to do the usual and take a written test. Props to whoever did the written, that would be so challenging! But that just means more studying for the AP exam come May...but as you said, multiple choice is slowly, but surely, becoming easier! Finally.
ReplyDeleteI also enjoy R&G, although at first I really didn't understand it. Watching the film helped me a lot, and it definitely made me enjoy it way more! As for Hamlet, I wasn't there the days we watched the most modern film, so I feel like I missed out on a good movie! Maybe I'll watch it in my free time soon..
